A new spider, Trogloraptor tulishpun, was discovered in talus caves along the Columbia River Gorge. WCC director Neil Marchington assisted in locating additional specimens for study. Greta Binford of Lewis and Clark College discovered the first specimens of this member of the Trogloraptoridae family. The spider, only the second member of this family, has claws at the end of their legs. Madeline Jones, lead author of the scientific paper describing tulishpun, passed the honor of naming this new species to members of the local indigenous tribes. The name chosen, Trogloraptor tulishpun means cave predator, master of domain, in the Ichiskii language, similar to the scientific name of Trogo (cave-dwelling) raptor (robber).
